INDONESIA - MOUNT KERINCI HIGHLANDS
60KG JUTE BAG WITH GRAINPRO
From the lush mountain forests of Kerinci, this Sumatran represents the amazing potential of Indonesian Coffees. Grown in rich volcanic soil, it has sweet caramel and spicy cinnamon flavour notes.
The Kerinci highlands are part of the area around Mount Kerinci which is the highest volcano in Indonesia. The surrounding environment is largest protected forest area in South East Asia. It has lush forest, volcanoes, mountains, rivers and wetlands.
Traditionally a robusta growing area it wasn't super profitable for coffee. The quality of environment supports Arabica which has been encouraged in recent years.
Wet Hulled Process
This coffee is processed using traditional wet hulled method which is common in Sumatra. This process results in the dark green beans with the low acidity and earthy/heavier body. After picking the coffee immediately pulped and left to sit overnight in a bucket (sometimes with or without water). The coffee is washed the following day and then partially dried to around 40% moisture content with the some mucilage still attached to the parchment.
Social & Environmental Impact
Through friends of GFT Coffee we have managed to get hold of this awesome coffee direct from the owners Susie and Craig who have been doing great work in Indonesia for past 15 years. They are focussed on environmental protection and sustainable development. They have helped setup innovative wastewater treatment and recycling systems as well as establishing a new processing plant which help improve the coffee quality as well as the lives of the local indigenous population.
